Soham students performed at the 2016 Chicago Climate Festival!

During summer camp this year, we created a children’s bharatanatyam piece based on Miranda Paul’s beautifully illustrated book, One Plastic Bag. The piece tells the story of the recycling women of Gambia, and the dancers did a wonderful job of recounting the tale through dance.

 

Shakespeare in the Parks

Vesak Celebration at Blue Lotus Temple

Soham students were invited to perform at the annual Vesak celebration at Blue Lotus Temple in Woodstock, Illinois.

This meaningful Buddhist holiday honors the three major events in the life of the Buddha: his birth, his enlightenment, and the attainment of his final enlightenment at death. The ceremony included performances, a lantern parade, and refreshments.

 

Apna Ghar, Apni Kala: Dancing for a Cause

On May 7th, Soham students were featured among the performers at this charitable event highlighting South Asian music and dance.

The evening included light refreshments followed by performances from several dance and vocal groups in the Chicago area. All proceeds from the event benefitted Apna Ghar, an organization dedicated to preventing gender violence in the South Asian community.

 

Amazing India

Chicagoans gathered at Navy Pier to enjoy lively performances by Soham Dance Space students and others, as well as music, activities, and delicious foods.

This was the sixth annual Amazing India celebration, presented by the Indo-American Heritage Museum and Navy Pier. The afternoon included performances, food, and activities at Navy Pier’s Crystal Garden. See photos here!
